Why Online Learning?

The Data Behind Online Learning

A 2009 U.S. Department of Education study found that, on average, online students performed better on all types of assessments than those taking the same courses through traditional face-to-face instruction.

The Hillsboro School District launched the Hillsboro Online Academy to fill the needs of students who wish to conduct their education outside of, or as a supplement to, traditional learning on a physical campus. Our new Academy provides the educational tools for our students to do so. Hillsboro Online Academy is a free, public school open to all middle and high school students. It offers core courses and electives that enable students to fulfill state educational requirements. At the high school level, students will complete all State of Oregon graduation requirements, including state assessments and senior projects. Upon successful completion, students will receive a diploma from the Hillsboro Online Academy.
